Protein Powder Labels: What to Compare

Protein Powder Labels: What to Compare

A scoop is not a standard unit across protein powders. Before comparing tubs, check the serving size and the amount of protein listed per serving, then look at what else comes with it. The useful choice is the one whose ingredients and format suit your preferences—not the one with the loudest front label.

Check the Protein Source

Labels may identify sources such as whey, casein, soy, or pea protein. That detail can help you narrow options based on dietary preferences, but it does not tell the whole story about a particular product. Read the ingredient list and allergen statement rather than assuming every powder in a category is formulated the same way.

Look at the Full Serving

Compare protein per stated serving, and notice how large that serving is. Then scan for added sugars, sweeteners, flavors, and other ingredients you may want to avoid or simply prefer not to have. If you plan to mix powder into a smoothie or recipe, flavor and texture are practical considerations, but they are not guaranteed by the label.

Choose on Your Own Terms

Decide which details matter most to you—source, flavoring, allergen information, or how the serving fits your usual routine—and compare products on those points.
